lion rock

Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka rises 600 feet above the surrounding plain. Can you see why it is called the lion rock?

To me it looks a bit like a lion's head rising above the plain. Perhaps that is why the entrance to the palace was through a lion's mouth flanked by huge lion claws!

From the top of the rock you can see the water gardens that surrounded the palace fortress.
