"I do, I do" in Naples

The car awaits in Piazza del Plebiscito to take us away . . .

If I was a wedding photographer, Napoli would be where I would have my shop.

Napoli has a reputation, travellers are told to be careful of con-artists and thieves, but we found a normal city going about its normal functions. It is typical of the Italian big cities. Everything is chaotic, but it is interesting none-the-less.

Do I like Napoli? I do!

I Do! I DO!

Naples is Italy's third biggest city.

There, I've said it. I'm hooked. Chained for life. And I didn't even organise a pre-marital agreement.I do in Napoli But there is something about this city that grabs you.

And like love, it just creeps up and then hits you with a sledge hammer. I can't honestly put my finger on it. Maybe it was the spectacle of the magnificent wedding venue of Chiesa di San Francesco di Paola that looks over the grand square of Piazza del Plebiscito; maybe it was the soaring ceiling of the Galleria Umberto I; perhaps the good company we were with at the time; could it have been the friendly restaurant near our pension; the troubadors that did their rounds each night; I need to go back to find out why!

We really only had a short relationship with Naples. Just a few days. Parted before we had the chance to develop our knowledge of each other. But the feelings are still there!

And I don't care what others say about her - I've heard the rumors. The Lonely Planet guide goes as far as quoting from Cook's Tourist Handbook of 1884 . . . "Naples is an ill-built, ill-paved, ill-lighted, ill-drained, ill-watched, ill-governed and ill-ventilated city" . . . Ah! The're only jealous.

The wedding car

They can say all they like - I'm committed, faithful.

Naples is a great place.
