Applying wax

Applying the wax to the areas of the cloth where the dye is not required. You can see the small reservoir of hot wax on top of the pen. This is replenished on a regular basis from the main heating pot.

After the dyeing process, the fabric is then washed in hot water to remove the wax. This is hot work, especially in a country like Sri Lanka.

After the application of another coating of wax, the fabric is then re-dyed to build up the complexity of the design
