Inside the synagogue - the Jewish population on the island has fallen, but the synagogue is maintained as a place of worship and study. This synagogue was bombed on 12 April 2002 and eleven German tourists were amongst the 15 killed. It seemed so peaceful when we were there. We walked back to Houmt Souq and some school kids joined us for part of the way, practicing their English. I guess they will be wondering why the bombing occurred. |
