Photos of Le Lezard Rouge |
Le Lezard Rouge is an old train turned into a unique tourist experience. It travels on the line that serves the phosphate mines in the hills above Metlaoui in Southern Tunisia. These photos were taken in November, 2001. |

(Above) The train travels across a flat stony desert before the climb into the hills. Approaching the mountains (Right). |
The mountain crags have looked the same for generations. |
Life clings to the sides of the spring-fed streams. |
There are many tunnels on the line as the train winds its way up to the phosphate mining area. |

The train carriages wait for another day. |
